These are new, cold-hardy blueberry varieties developed only in the past few years. They are compact blueberry plants (2 1/2 to 3 feet high full-grown), already planted in patio planters to decorate local decks, porches, patios, and sidewalks year-round. My planters are left outside all Winter, as Patio Blueberry plants are rated 20 below zero. Additionally, they take our usual late Spring freezes in the 20's...... their blooms can be wide open and not be hurt at all. They take our hot Summer temperatures over 100 degrees....their fruit does not get soft and drop. These plants are also beautiful in their colors of Fall.
These Patio Blueberries do offer quite a legacy of ornamental value, with white bell-blossoms in the Spring, blue fruit in the Summer, predominately red and orange leaves in the Fall for many weeks, and shapely, reddish stems in the Winter. Three varieties are available for an extended season of fresh fruit late June, July, and early August. All Patio Blueberry plants I sell are of bearing age, meaning they are beginning to produce berries. Their fruit production will increase each year for the next several years as the plants mature and fill out the patio planters, until it levels off to about 4 to 5 pints per Patio Blueberry plant. I use American made, quality plastic planters designed for good air-water exchange and excellent drainage. Two colors are presently available in Terra Cotta Clay and Light Beige; planters are 15" x 15" with 4 corner feet. The estimated life of Patio Blueberries in planters is approximately 15 years. Fresh, organic fruit is a real option here, as my patio planter system is ideal for organic growing. Additionally, no sprays are generally required on these Patio Blueberries in our High Desert climate. I have available for my customers an organic, slow-release blueberry fertilizer at no charge each Spring. Please contact me if you have any questions and if you would like for me to deliver these Patio Blueberry plants to you, as my nursery is not open to the public. Delivery in Central Oregon is free within the towns of Redmond, Sisters, Bend, Madras and Prineville. |
